State of the Clan Address

State of the Clan Address

Well, I'm way overdue on one of these, and it's about time eh?
First, I want to extend a warm thanks to all of my Staff and Capos. The site wouldn't be what it is if it wasn't for the strong leadership structure we have in the clan. That type of leadership allows me to only intervene when needed, and rarely does that even occur. I'm always here for wisdom, comments, concerns for your individual clans, but for the most part you all have done a wonderful job.
Jeb continues to be an amazing co-leader, usually handling what I'm not around to do, or what I'm too busy with school to be doing. His role isn't as active oriented as capos, but everyone appreciates his input and his presence brings an element of balance to the force.
Sole is clearly this past years MVP. Bringing in countless new friends, establishing a humpday with Bungie, and overall just putting WAY too much time unpaid into AoR, he really deserves his own round of applause. He really goes above and beyond and is really the Secretary of the State, changing passwords, user id's, making forums, changing ranks, and making it fun for everyone. If you get a chance, send Sole a sincere thanks because he really has done a great job.
Lastly, I'd like to thank our members. Without you visiting our website on such a consistent basis, participating in the community, and overall just making this place awesome, we wouldn't be nearly as cool as we already are. And I ask that you continue that support so that we can continue my goal into world domination.
Not sure how many people saw, but we had over 4 million hits last month alone. This kind of stuff is golden when we can present it to sponsors and potential advertisers that could actually help support many of AoR's functions, tournaments, and teams.
The Spring Slam Tournament was a huge success, thanks mostly to KidTiger and company. He's one hell of an organizer, and I can see he is great for his Charlotte Gaming League. I am thrilled to be receiving a Leviathan T-shirt which I will wear proudly around my school, and watch the Interior Design girls try to figure out exactly what the hell it is.
Also, on the Pro team front. I know that many of you know about the pro team, how badass we are , and how we intend to compete in MLG live events. I'm not sure how many of you knew however, that we are currently working with a big name sponsor. I can't tell too much because I don't want to over-extend what I know, but barring any catastrophic failure in negotiations, AoR pro should have more sponsorship muscle than any team on the circuit save the big 3. More details should become available soon, however, we should be fully operational at some point in July.
Also, in an attempt to give back to the community, the Pro team will start participating in the "Adopt a Noob" Program. Whoever officially runs the Adopt a Noob program, please send me a message on the site or an IM so I can get the pro guys on board and start helping everyone get better.
Good News is that we do intend to make all the events. We decided this week, we are going to San Diego! Team passes go on sale this Tuesday and we are going to nab one and get our tickets and go, with or without a sponsor. I can feel the team improve each week, and we feel that we might be able to do some damage at San Diego. So what the hell, we are going.
That said, holy CRAP! Airfare is expensive. We mostly got it covered on our own dime, about $400 bucks per person to fly (Mike lives there, thanks God!), $200 Team Pass, and About $300 for the hotel for the weekend. However, if anyone would like to, the team would appreciate any assistance in regards to the team Pass. Well, I would, I'm putting up the entire $200 for the team pass on top of my plane ticket, and every little bit would help. I'm currently looking into a team shirt for San Diego, and perhaps if enough people were interested (Please Send me a PM if you are) for a certain donation amount, you could get an official AoR Team Shirt. Donating is by no means required, but it would really help us out, no matter what the amount. (Hopefully our sponsor will get in gear soon before the season is over )
That said, I hope everyone has a a great gaming summer. Enjoy GTA IV, and the anticipation of Gears of War 2 in the fall, it looks to be another great year in AoR. Spread the word, get more involved, it's been a great past year, lets keep the ball rolling, and we'll see you on live.

SPRING SLAM FINAL MATCH

SPRING SLAM FINAL MATCH
| Posted By:
AoR Jungle Jim
@ May 9 2008, 12:10 AM |
The AoR Spring Slam FFA Tournament finally comes to a successful close after 6 weeks. 80 players battled it out from AoR, Podtacular, We're Not Godz, Cavegirls, CBTS and all the new members we've gained after our Bungie Humpday. We ran this tournament in hopes of meeting some new members and also allowing our alliances to come and mix it up with our veteran players. Laughs and taunts were exchanged, upsets were had, teabags were shared and ultimately, everyone had a good time!
Up for grabs was a copy of the recently released GRAND THEFT AUTO IV for XBOX 360. Second place received a 25 dollar gift card to Best Buy and then Third place received 1600 Microsoft points.
A lot of notable players who did especially well and received Honorable Mention are xxxlokixxxxx, AoR JM4C, AoR Sole, Zoom Demon and AoR Fobu1ous. These guys played in some tough brackets and managed to pull out the advancing scores to stay alive another day. Good job guys!
Well, let's get to the Final Match! Here are your finalists:

The match began fast and hard out of the box as each player tried to make the first aggresive stand against the other players. Rustifer immediately stormed off the line for Killerhawk with a Brute Shot and took him down with 2 shots and a melee. Ledin Toke gleefully cleaned the mess up. Zaitsev found himself getting triangulated by both Rustifer and Killerhawk when they respawned at the same time! Rustifer picks up the kill on Zaitsev, and gets revenge on Ledin Toke for the prior clean-up kill. Killerhawk makes his way to Rustifer and brings him down only to have Ellipson, whose been running this entire time around the perimeter creeping like a tiger and pop out to take out Killerhawk. After quickly reshielding, he picks up Brute Shot, swings back from the way he originally came and finds Killerhawk again and pops a few shots at him, but Killerhawk pays no attention because he ducks out of Ellipson's fire and finds Rustifer seemingly vulnerable behind a Deployable Cover.
Killerhawk jumps over the cover and Rustifer whacks him with an AR for the 1-2 KO. Rustifer then reloads, thinking it's safe in the world now that Killerhawk has been temporarily disabled, but NO! Ellipson comes flying from around the same corner that Killerhawk had found refuge in moments prior, jumps over the Deployable Cover and takes Rustifer out with a blast and a melee from his Brute Shot. By this point all chaos has broken loose and the jitters are quickly almost nearly gone as these seasoned Halo players begin taking risks with jumps, pushing their luck keeping their heads exposed to get that one last shot in and score a kill, even using the gun turrets.
3 minutes to go in the first round, Ellipson, Ledin Toke and Rustifer were tied at 9 kills a piece. Ledin Toke broke the tie with a firebomb grenade to the face of Ellipson and then scored a double kill off of Rustifer while he was standing with a look of dismay on his face that the man he was just shooting at seemed to have spontaneously burst into flames. Ledin Toke jumped on a roll when he picked up the Shotgun and found his way up the tower and made two quick kills, again and extended his lead by 1 kill. Ellipson ended his temporary madness with an AR blow to the mouth as he came up the Grav Lift screaming with laughter.
With 5 veterans wittled down from a field of 80, you're going to have moments like this.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the map things were getting a little awkward. You see, every one of these players know each other very well and have played games with each other that they even have become familiar with their playing styles. When players bond on a certain level like this, things start to get weird, even in the middle of a heated fight. Apparentely, Rustifer and Killerhawk were discussing the benefits of a full body hair conditioner and somehow a full-fledged argument broke out between them with slapping, guns and bullets, just all sorts of violent things, when all of a sudden Zaitsev sees the confrontation and decides to drop what he's doing and intervene. "Guys," Zaitsev said, "You're both being silly gooses. We're all friends here and there's nothing that says that the three of us can't be together." Clearly, Zaitsev had no idea what he was talking about and things got even more awkward. But Rustifer and Killerhawk looked at each other and then there was something about the way the light was hitting Zaisev's face that made him appear so endearing that what ensued moments later couldn't be stopped and only be told by a single photo:
You'll notice that with Killerhawk's age comes inexperience, and so it makes sense that he would be seen here looking at the sign to see where he should put his gun at.
The rest of the match continued to be a huge slugfest with Ellipson, Rustifer and Ledin Toke exchanging the first place position over the entire match. At one point, Rustifer was up 10 points on the rest of the field and seemed to be on cruise control. But it just wasn't enough to keep Ellipson and Ledin Toke down. Ultimately, it would be Ellipson who would prevail in the end scoring 54 kills. Rustifer came in second with 50 and Ledin Toke in third with 44. Zaitsev and Killerhawk played a terrific match as well and it just happened to be the luck of the draw that they found themselves at the bottom of the match.
Rustifer blasts Ledin Toke into third place and scores himself a gift card for 25 dollars to Best Buy
I strongly urge you to CLICK HERE FOR THE FILESHARE VIDEO of the match and watch it on your own time. It is not every day that 5 players of their caliber get together and slug it out for 20 minutes. CLICK HERE for the Carnage breakdown of the game if you don't have access to watch the film.

Thanks everyone who participated and played in the first annual Spring Slam and next year we'll top ourselves with bigger prizes and an even larger field of players! I'd like to thank everyone who helped out, especially Sole, LedinToke, Ellipson and Fobu1ous. Without these guys, the tournament would not have happened, a worm hole would have opened up and swallowed our planet and we would not be here now enjoying being apart of the greatest community in the gaming world.
Army of the Republic, for the win.
